Project Description

Located in the untouched natural landscape of Sumba, this luxury boutique resort was conceived as an immersive tropical retreat where traditional island architecture meets contemporary hospitality design. The project was designed to blend harmoniously with the surrounding environment, creating a seamless relationship between architecture, nature, and the ocean.

The resort includes eight private 200 sqm villas carefully positioned within the landscape to maximize privacy, views, and connection with the tropical surroundings. Inspired by traditional vernacular forms and materials, the architectural language reinterprets local identity through clean modern lines, open spatial layouts, and refined contemporary detailing.

The development also includes staff accommodations, wellness and spa facilities, massage areas, fitness spaces, restaurants, bars, and integrated hospitality services designed to offer a complete luxury experience immersed in nature. Surrounded by lush vegetation and connected to a private beach, the resort was envisioned as a secluded sanctuary focused on tranquility, comfort, and authentic tropical living.

The Vision

Architectural Concept & Vision

The architectural vision behind the project was to create a contemporary tropical resort deeply connected to the spirit of Sumba and its natural environment. The design combines traditional island-inspired forms, warm natural materials, and open-air spatial concepts with a modern architectural approach focused on comfort, elegance, and experiential hospitality. The masterplan follows the natural topography and landscape, allowing the villas and shared facilities to integrate organically within the site while preserving views, privacy, and the surrounding vegetation. Curved pathways, layered tropical gardens, water features, and open communal spaces create a fluid circulation experience that encourages guests to interact with nature throughout the resort. Special attention was given to the balance between traditional atmosphere and contemporary luxury. Large openings, elevated roofs, natural textures, and handcrafted materiality create a timeless tropical identity while maintaining modern spatial efficiency and refined hospitality standards. The project was conceived not only as a resort destination, but as an architectural experience centered around silence, landscape, wellness, and connection with the natural environment.
The Lifestyle

Luxury Amenities and Indoor-Outdoor Living

The resort offers a complete hospitality experience designed around privacy, wellness, and tropical outdoor living. The development includes eight luxury villas of approximately 200 sqm each, together with dedicated staff accommodations, restaurants, bars, wellness facilities, and recreational spaces fully integrated into the landscape. Amenities include two bars, a fully equipped gym, massage rooms, spa facilities, open social areas, internal parking, and curated hospitality services designed to provide comfort while preserving the intimate atmosphere of the resort. The restaurant and communal areas were strategically positioned to maximize panoramic views and natural ventilation while maintaining a strong visual connection with the surrounding tropical environment. The private beach access, lush landscaping, and low-density architectural approach create an exclusive retreat immersed entirely in nature. Every space was designed to enhance the guest experience through tranquility, privacy, natural materials, and seamless indoor-outdoor living inspired by the spirit of Sumba.
